I need to set up a Message board on a server and want to use a Linux server and open source board software. I've been looking at Citadel BBS but was wondering if there is anything better out there for Linux servers than that? We don't even really care what version of Linux we use, or even if we have to purchase the full version. But it has to be Linux at this point. Please advise, thanks.

have you looked at Syncronet BBS software? they started primarily as a Windoze based BBS but the author of the software has a passion for Linux. http://www.synchro.net/ they do have a Linux version of the BBS and the Win32 version I toyed with was very stable. best of all, it's free (believe it's open source as well.)

We've pretty much decided on JFORUM. Its java based and will run on anything. I found the basic choices out there were ASP (Evil), PHP (Propriatary and vulnerable), and Java. We like all things Java, so it was a pretty easy choice.
