Asus P2B: Which CPU?

I have an Asus P2B with a P2 266. I want to upgrade the CPU. The P2B has 100mhz FE and the Asus spec says it can take a P3 600+. The spec says it can go to 112 with an 8 multiple.

So the question is: What the best bet? A celeron or P3? Will I need an adapter for the CPU?

Thanks

your P2B should have older BIOS (since you have P2 266 on it) - download the latest BIOS from the Asus site that will suppoprt later CPUs. still fastest cpus supported willl be 600 MHz, that too - 100 MHz FSB parts.
and i dont think 112 MHz is any good comparision against 133, you could simply overclock 100 MHz FSB cpus for that matter.

anyway you will need a slotket to put in newer CPUs, better if you get a celeron since the latest one has 100 MHz FSB and all of others have 66. if you get a P3 you wont be able to use its full speed (remember intel cpus are multiplier locked and 100 MHz FSB cpus are phasing out)

I've got a P2B-D. Rev 1.05. I want to put 2 PIII 600's in, but from what I understand it can't handle a coppermine without a slotket. Are there PIII 600's that arn't coppermine?

yes, you could get an older P-III 600 MHz Katmai core thats slot 1 (no need of a slotket), 512k half speed cache, and 100 MHz FSB.
