Intel Brookdale, Pentium 4 chipset. NOW to be called "i845".
The Intel Brookdale chipset will support the Pentium 4 Northwood version processor with mPGA478 socket & socket-423 PGA423 support. The Brookdale chipset supports PC133 SDRAM, later version will support DDR-SDRAM only PC1600 memory up to 3GB's in 3 DIMM's. PC1600 has virtually the same performance as PC133 because of its high latency. This Intel Brookdale Pentium 4 chipset also supports EEC and ICH3, 400MHz FSB by using 100MHz quad-pumped clock signal as above, AGP4X 1.5 volt, 6 USB ports 2.0 spec, ATA Ultra DMA 100, South Bridge ICH3.

The first PC133 version of the Brookdale is out the autum of 2001. The second version with DDR-SDRAM support is due the beginning of 2002.

Brookdale-G (i845) due end of 2002 will include integrated graphics core for value motherboards.
i845A will support SDRAM while i845B will support DDR-SDRAM due end of 2001.

Plumas chipset will probably be the workstation/server version of the Brookdale and will include DDR-SDRAM support & dual processor support.

Incredible - are they trying to lose market share to AMD? PC1600 my aunt fanny, Intel continues to show that "they just don't get it" as they try to create an artificial performance benefit for RDRAM. As an Intel stockholder I really wish they'd get with the program and come out with a kick-@ss chipset for DDR (and, eventually, quad-pumped DDR2) SDRAM. If AMD ever gets its act together on the chip sets they're going to regret climbing into bed with Rambus, if they don't already. Just my 2 cents.

well that is it... i heard a while ago that intel is terminating its contract with rambus and setting itself free with RDRAM obligations. and the fact one of their proposed chipsets Plumas (Brookdale-DDR) will support ddr-sdram!

AMD wont stay far behind since it already has the powerful 760 DDR chipset and more chipset vendors making chipsets for them, including the integrated ones for value platforms.
somebody (i hope it would be AMD) will surely come up with dual/quad-pumped DDR chipset and equal intel in MHz - and then we will have a fair ground for comparision with P4!
