Hello,

I have a single layer DVD burning player and use DVD5 (4,7GB) disks to burn avi files. Now I want to do the following but am not sure if it is possible:

I want to put avi file that I downloaded from edonkey like
Alias, ER or American Idol that were ripped from HDTV, onto a DVD5 but they should be able to work on my DVD player (non DVD-rom) regular DVD Player.

I wish to know if this will be possible, will simply changing the file names from .avi to .vob be enough, or how will it be possible in NERO burning software

Please assist...

I want to be able to review my dvd5's later on my regular dvd player

thank you
Ralph

I don't think you can, but you can use DVD authoring software (ie. Nero Vision Express) to convert them to DVD.

Renaming will not work - they are different formats. You will need a video authoring program to accomplish this. I do all of my video conversion/editing with Dazzle, ArcSoft Showbiz, and Sonic My DVD. I'm sure there are tons of different titles out there, but with this trio, I've been able to do just about every DVD/VCD project I've wanted.

You could convert the AVI files to MPEG2. If I remember what I did when I had avi's, I think I converted them to MPEG2. Depending on your CPU speed and hard drives, this could take a while. My CPU was a little slower than real time, which isn't too bad. Also, remember when you send the videos to DVD, its not only determined by size, but time. So, even if the file is only 1 GB, but is 2 hours long, that will fill the DVD. I think when I had my avi movies that were around 2 hours long, I converted them to MPEG2, and then split the file into 2, and burned them to 2 cd's. It worked fine that way. You will use 1 DVD or 2 CD's, so its your preference, and price factor.

Hello honsbeek2,

I am a Nero employee and would like to help you.

You can use Nero Vision to burn AVI files to a video DVD that can be played on all regular stand-alone DVD players.

Simply start Nero Vision and tell it to create a video DVD, import the file(s) you want to burn, on the next screen choose if you want a menu added to the DVD, press Next and watch a preview of the DVD and finish by clicking on Next again and then Burn.

If you need additional assistance, feel free to contact our technical support (http://www.nero.com/enu/support-form.html) or visit our community (http://my.nero.com/).

Best regards
