The sims 2 install nothing happens

Hello,
When I try to install the Sims 2 on my Compaq laptop with Vista, I get to the point of selecting the folder to install it in, I do, then it says it will install x amount of memory (which I have enough free memory to do), and then when i click ok, nothing happens. Something called "e reg" is using up about 50% of my RAM, but nothing happens. I've left it for ages and still nothing happens. I don't know why!

sounds like a bad install. maybe a corrupt file.

Have you tried doing it again ? End the process from Task manager and click ok again.( after you start the install, i.e ).
