What's the best chipset performance-wise (stability's nice too...) for a TBird 1.3ghz?

I'm considering mainly either the Asus A7M266 vs A7A266, (but i'm open to other suggestions) leaning towards the M, it seems to be the better performer. Can anyone verify this?

Thanks very much in advance.

well, both are goos, the AMD 760 chipset A7M266 performs better than he ALiMagik A7A266. as far as stability is concerned, both are quite stable although I would give a point or two more to AMD.

but you have a definite advantage with AliMagik A7A266, you have option for both SDRAM and DDR-SDRAM, one that is significant if you are on a tight budget and cannot go for DDR right away.

Right now the best value in Socket A is KT133A, but if you want the highest stability and performance go with either the A7M266 or MSI's K7 Master both based on AMD 760, and stay away from KT266 until mature boards come out.

Went for the A7M266, and a T-Bird 1333mhz, waiting for Micron 256mb DDR-SDRAM to come in though. Got an Alpha PAL6035MFC cooler, but it still seems like it's gonna be a pretty hot system! *hyuk, hyuk*

Thanks for reaffirming my thoughts that the AMD chipset would be the best.

The A7M performs better, the A7A gives you better stability/compatability. I fyou run the newest, most common parts and limit yourself to only a few cards, you shouldn't have problems with the A7M. Otherwise, you get VIA issues.

If you want your question answered.

Then the AMD is the better chipset at the moment.

As for the best performing/stable motherboard, then it would HAVE TO be the MSI K7 Master.

This motherboard is better than the Asus boards in almost every department.

I agree with hatimh on the MSI K7-Master. I've got one and it is unbelievable. I have my 1Ghz T-bird running at 1.5Ghz at 150Mhz DDR (300Mhz) FSB. It hasn't crashed once at this speed. This is an awesome motherboard.
