Xbox 360 controllerand pc

Hello,why, when i plug my xbox 360 controller with built in driver is plugged into the usb it will not let me control games?Iwould appreciate any help,many thanks

have you configured it?
have you set your game to run from the controller instead of keyboard+mouse?

And some games dont even support controllers in that case a program called xpadder works great.....Im usin it to play brink with my 360 controller
