In 1997 I purchased an Acer Aspire from Wal-Mart.
The motherboard is a V56LA. I have been to and emailed Acer and they are of little or no help. I need a new riser, (someone also called it a daughter board), card. The system came with one that had only 1 PCI slot and 2 ISA slots. The one PCI is now filled with my 56k modem and I still need to install a video acclerator and most likely a sound card.

Dude, get yourself a new MB/Processor. That thing is 4 years old!

Get an ISA modem and an ISA sound card. You may need to buy them used, but they will be cheap, they'll work just as well (speed is not an issue with either of these devices), and they'll leave your PCI slot open for the vid card. There have to be lots of old systems with ISA cards of this sort lying around.
