proplems with DLT80

Hello,

I got an external DLT80 drive but now I have some problems with connecting
it to an adaptec 2740.
The drive is bel LVD/SE at the back and it should work with a 2740
(I think).
I got a cable HD50-HD68 but the 2740 brings some strange error messages
and seems to hand on each ID for a while and cannot find the drive in the
end.

I would appreciate every idea on this topic,
