PS3 remote controller

ok so the ps3 blu ray remote controller (the 25 dollar one not the six axis one) the one that is for playing movies
does it use bluetooth or IR to send signal to ps3
and is there any way to make that run with pc so i can control vlc and stuff like that
other option i know that the remotes that are made for win 7 mostly control medial center but i hate that i want to control my own player like vlc media player and stuff

It's bluetooth, same as the controllers.

Not sure if it can be used for your PC, but you'd at the very least need a bluetooth receiver (clearly!)
