Hi,
If I download and install Windows 8 thry say need a 3rd party dvd driver. my PC came with the windows 7 driver. I have no idea what the brand name is for my current CD/DVD-rw drive is. what should i look for?

It's not a driver thing, Windows will see the drive without a problem. The issue is the codecs needed to play back video DVDs, which have been removed. Windows media player will not play DVDs, though other sorts of disks (data disks, programs, etc) will work fine. You can install a media center pack which will include the codecs to play back DVDs though media center (not windows media player though) or install third-party software to play DVDs. Free utilities include media player classic or VLC player.
