I've had my PlayStation 2 since I was five years old and it still works today. I don't see the need to upgrade because if it still works, why get rid of it? Sure, the console will eventually go obsolete, but as long as I can still find games for it, I'm gonna keep it.
Eventually I'll upgrade to the PS3, but until I have to, I'm not rushing. People keep telling me to get an Xbox, but I don't really want to because I don't play games like Call of Duty where you can get online with it, so I don't see the need. That, and I don't feel like having to get used to the new controller. I've used an Xbox 360 before while playing Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, but I sucked because I couldn't find the right buttons.
So, what do you guys think? Post your opinion and you just might get me to buy an Xbox 360.
I have a 360 and before that I had a PS2. Do not get me wrong, I love PS2, I had a lot of fun on it.
However, for 360. I get good connection online. I love XBOX live. The graphics are not the greatest compared to PC gaming, however they are better than PS2. Higher resolution (as high as 720p), and more realistic and sharper effects, like better lighting, shadows, and just more better graphics in general.
Honestly, I love the durability and shape of the 360 controller. All my PS2 controllers I had have something wrong with them, like completely ruined or the R1,R2, L1,L2 buttons are all messed up. I suggest buying wired controllers instead of wireless, unless you are 10+ feet away from your TV.
On the bad side, XBOX live cost about 60 US dollar a year, and for a new game it cost about 60 dollars. So it is a little pricy.
XBOX does have Kinect which many like.
Also, I would stay away from the Slim Version of the 360. It is just more money for a new design. I would just buy a used 360 console which you can probably get for less than 100 bucks if you look hard enough.
Another cool thing about upgrading your console, is say good bye to memory cards. Enjoy having a hard drive for your console, which you can store much more games and even upload your game to your hard drive to reduce chances of game crashing and play with no DVD drive in the back ground.
And on last thing, I would not think about waiting for a new generation console. The new Microsoft console is said to come out in 2014 or later.
So if you want to upgrade your console do it now, do not wait.
PS3, does use blu ray and supports 1080p resolution, and I heard it has better graphics than 360 and smoother game play.
I would go with either console, it all depends on which exclusive games you like better.
