First some background.
I have a Dell P2-350 on an SE440-bx 100fsb board.
I was going to upgrade to the slot1 1Ghz chip, but then I figured out that I could almost build a new system for the same cost.
I already have a new 30Gb Maxtor, Panasonic floppy, 256Mb pc133 ram and I'll swap my Geforce256 over.
I'm looking at 4 boards in different price ranges.
1) MSI K7T Turbo raid
2) IWill KK266R
3) Asus A7A 266(ddr and sdram)
4) Gigabyte 7DXR

Any thoughts?

Also, I'm only going to go with a Duron for now. Which would be better? The 800-850-900? I'm not planning on heavy overclocking and will buy the retail CPU and upgrade when I can afford to.

Thanks for any help.

Maxtor drives really only work if you never use them, lol. If you are not an overclocker, get the gigabyte. They make very stable fast performing amd motherboards -- why do you think oems use them almost exclusively? Forget the maxtor hunk of junk, and get either an ibm or wester digital. Get your ddr ram from crucial, it's very affordable.

I am also building a new system and going with the 7a-dxr mobo. it has 3 dimm slots while other boards have only 2. the board itself is about 200$. You can find retailers on pricewatch.com. for more info on this board see the post for 7a-dxr

I like the gigabyte board (i don't overclock.) The only thing I would ever put on a maxtor drive is somthing that I don't care if I lose it. Fujitsu or western dig make much better drives. Remember if the drive fails it's there fault if you don't have a backup it's yours.
