Hello everyone,

I am trying to decide between the ASUS A7M 266 and the MSI 6341 K7Master 266. Does anyone have any pros or cons for either of these boards?

In addition, what type (make and manufacturer) of CPU fan do I need for either an Athlon 1200 'C' or Athlon 1333 'C' processor on either of these boards?

I think either of them is a good choice. Although sometimes the AMD 760 chipset boards can be hard to come by. Personally, I would choose the K7 Master, because I've read that they tend to be the most stable AMD 760 boards.

As far as a heatsink/fan combo, you're in luck, Tom just happens to have a comparison between 46 different coolers for the Athlon in this weeks CPU Guide.

I don't know anything about computers... but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night...

I've got an A7m 266 and I'm dammed if I can make it go faster than 1.2GHz. Yeah, yeah I got the latest bios tried all jumper settings. Got a 1.33GHz cpu. Problem seems to be bus frequency when it goes up everything locks and since you cant change the multiplier... It runs very well on 1.2GHz.
Is this the reason its so hard to come by? Stopped shipping?
Anyone tried with pc 1600 memory?
...
So I guess if you are happy with 1.2GHz this works fine, me I'm looking for a gigabyte card.

Why me?

Is'nt Master the one Tom's used in his gaming machine?

I acutally wanted to get this mboard because of it's integrated SCSI controller. If I'm not mistaken you can change the multiplier on this board as well, wich you can't on the A7M...

Since I couldn't get hold of the Master I got the A7M266 and haven't had a single problem with it this far... The reason for the "low" clockspeed is that I got hold of a "bad" CPU, the cache1 can't keep up with higher speeds...

My Geforce3 card crashes randomly with FSB>135 as well, but that's because of the card and not the mb. Tried a different vcard and it ran fine on higher speeds...

You can't go wrong with either one, but if I could get hold of one I would still go with the Master...

Just curios, have you got sound chip onboard?
What speed memory?
Did it help change cpu? Any scsi/raid controller?
You actually run a 1.33GHz cpu with 133MHz bus?

Why can't I?

I got this MB so as not to spend all my time fixing problems and I'm very happy I did. This MB is stable, fast and easy to OC. If your a person who is looking to OC to the max look somewhere else but, if you want a decent board with good OCing and a stable system with little problems you won't be sorry. Check out www.msihardware.com and see for yourself.

The A7M board is definately the way to go IF you can find one. GOOD LUCK! Everybodys advertising the boards with the AMD 761 chipsets, try and put your hands on one! I'd love to. Everybody I call says "out of stock"

Yep, I do. But I disabled it (as well).

PC2100

Change CPU? I've bought it together with the 1.33 and overclocked it to 1.63..

I use Adaptec 19160 as SCSI, no raid..

I would double check all jumpers and voltages, strip everything down to a bare minimum. (Remove everything but the VCard)

Still doesn't help then replace the board on warranty...
