Hi All,

I need to build my sister a PC. I thought coming to this charming site would help but elsewhere it seems a bit unhelpful.

Luckily I saw the UK and Ireland Discussions site, and oh well - I just now the Irish part will get me sorted on building a sissy machine.

Any suggestions?
VOK

If you order before the 23rd December you will be eligible for FREE a special gift for your mother. The "Mom's Internet Link Feature", see the site for more details on how this device can alert you to the days when your mother will be more receptive to advancing your allowance and which days your pops will better deal with your poor grades.

Hope this helps

Well im from the UK

first id say if she needs a normal working PC say dual core 4 gig ram ect no major GPU u may as well just buy one from a shop as the prices are pretty cometitive with building.

what spec are you after?

low end office use

mid range media some gaming

or hard core gaming

and wats ur budget? plus is it just the base unit u need.

if u are making it ur self, only one site for me whch is ebuyer.com in the UK they are the best and great value

Well, I was looking at the i7 and a 5870 Nvidia card for starters. But I heard that I should get a SLi config at some extra cost.

She normally plays WOW and CS Source.

I've got a budget of around $1,214,585.00 ZIM (approx 2000 pounds).

Voko,

Home builds are all well and good, but who is going to support it? Do you really want to have to battle through the haze of toiletry products every time she accepts a file transfer on messenger? Depending on our clients needs we can also offer OMG!StephenGately and OMG!RossieOdonnell models to ensure we can provide a friendly comforting presence in every bedroom.

I am from Zimbabwe you know. I'm still waiting for a flatbed scanner I ordered from midnightstore.co.zim. Otherwise I would've scanned you one of her.

Honestly man, you never heard of ASCII art?

ASCII ART! (Normally more advanced in terms of shading though...)

Edit: Dammit! takes out leading spaces and double spaces...

November 18, 2009 9:46:56 AM

I like this guy.

Can we keep him for a pet Vok?
November 18, 2009 10:43:33 PM

Fcuk that, we'll just replace Vok.
November 20, 2009 9:14:33 AM

I don't want Vok for a pet.

Spoon him for a while maybe ... but not pet.

*Dry humps a couch*

I'm good for it.

Hi Zimbo/saffer...

Ur sister wont need a sli config, for WoW or CS,

I single mid range GPU with a half decent CPU will do her fine. Does she use it for any Photoshop and hard core movie converting? if not. a good quad will do...

Cheerio

R

P.s dont hold thumbs for anything coming from ZIm... HAHAAHAH... and saffer land is only a few steps better!

What you doing here this its a pom section only :)
November 21, 2009 6:33:41 AM

Yeah well the folks hail from Wales.

Evidently its somewhere over there and they have one hot chick living there (she is on torchwood) ... albeit still has the obligatory buck teeth and the whale tail.

Does it help if I type a bit slower when I post here, and do I have to watch my "p's" and "q's" ?

Oh ... by the way this thread is Vok's post what you like thread ... he doesn't have a sister either.

dude srsly!.. WOW AND CSS that can be ran on 7-series or DX9-ATI gfx cards

a athlon II X3, AM2+ mobo (DDR2) and a 260GTX is the best choice.. at the end of the day, it will be out of date in a year or so.. you wont spend alot on a PC and CSS and WOW are 2004/2005 games.. they can be both used with PCs with 3d03s of 10k nps, a 260GTX will give 40+k on a 3d03..

my AMD Sock A 2800+ is still running CSS v.well at 1680x1050

We handed your a$$ to you back in the day. By that virtue, I'm more than entitled to comment on a "pom" section.

Deep down I know you can't argue.
April 26, 2010 6:06:48 PM

Is your sis. professional? If not, then use a branded system with medium specs for her.

Sir, you have a fresh delivery of FAIL to deal with.

Oh I could argue on a number of levels.

Not to mention on how we populated Oz..

Werent for us you wouldnt be there :)
May 12, 2010 2:16:20 PM

Don't act like it's a favor. By your reasoning, I should blame you for putting me in the bush by some far off logic.
May 12, 2010 3:06:25 PM

Lets Not turn this into a racial debate about The Aussies... Damned brit prisoners...
It it weren't for you i could get hold of an I7 920 For less than R2500!

^ Dig the Nickname Fokofpoilisekar...
(I wonder if anyone here actually knows what that means)

Maybe BOB and Zuma can get together for a Spoon Session Later...?
May 13, 2010 5:42:55 AM

More like BOB and Julius I recon...

You Agent.
May 13, 2010 5:25:27 PM

^ Lets not talk about Julius...

WTF do u even mean by agent?
May 17, 2010 2:27:32 PM

Didn't you see Malema attacking the BBC reporter by calling him a basterd and agent?

Just a little chuckle that's going around these days in zuid afrika.
May 17, 2010 2:42:27 PM

^ yes, sorry i saw that for the first time last night (hes been up to so much cr@p lately that it could keep you entertained for days)

Im sorry

Bafana Beat Thailand 4-0 Last night, lol

Anyways back to topic, i would suggest maybe a E8400 + 4GB good Ram + CM690 II Advanced + GA-EP43T-UD3L + HD5770 + 1TB seagate Surveilance HDD (5 year warranty)
May 18, 2010 12:19:01 PM

My suggestion:

CPU: 80486SX-25 (any of the intel clones will do, unless you're feeling rich)
RAM: 2048K 18ns EDO DRAM
HDD: 4GB IDE
CD-ROM: 4x IDE
VGA: 1024K PCI (S3Virge, ATI 264, similar)
Sound: Gravis Ultrasound, AdLib, Creative SB16, Creative SBPro, similar
OS: MS-DOS 6.22 or DR-DOS 6, plus Windows 3.11 (although this new-fangled Windows 95 seems very nice but REQUIRES CD to install, unless you want to sit there for 16-odd hours swapping stiffies)...

If you want to play the latest games, up the CPU to a DX40 or DX2-50, and up the RAM to about 4096K, but that gets farking expensive farking quickly.

Otherwise, give it another three months so that intel can release this new 80586 'pentium' chip that everyone's raving about.
May 18, 2010 2:23:45 PM

I read about this pentiume thing. Apparently they are using some bad chips from production in domestic kettles.
May 18, 2010 3:01:04 PM

Yeah, it has some funny bug in the arithmetic unit, I think.
May 18, 2010 5:29:10 PM

That would add up...
May 19, 2010 9:23:56 AM

Actually, they didn't.
May 19, 2010 9:48:22 AM

The adding up was fine, it was multiplication it sucked at. Have a read of 'Only the paranoid survive' by Andy Grove for an insight into just what went down at Intel during the time.
May 19, 2010 10:43:36 AM

The FDIV bug, I think it was called.
September 24, 2010 2:22:19 PM

Why thank you for your insightful, yet pedantic view.
