Hi All,
I need to build my sister a PC. I thought coming to this charming site would help but elsewhere it seems a bit unhelpful.
Luckily I saw the UK and Ireland Discussions site, and oh well - I just now the Irish part will get me sorted on building a sissy machine.
Any suggestions?
VOK
PS- Ek dink nogsteeds BoM is 'n klomp fokken konte!

Well im from the UK
first id say if she needs a normal working PC say dual core 4 gig ram ect no major GPU u may as well just buy one from a shop as the prices are pretty cometitive with building.
what spec are you after?
low end office use
mid range media some gaming
or hard core gaming
and wats ur budget? plus is it just the base unit u need.
if u are making it ur self, only one site for me whch is ebuyer.com in the UK they are the best and great value

Voko,
Home builds are all well and good, but who is going to support it? Do you really want to have to battle through the haze of toiletry products every time she accepts a file transfer on messenger? Depending on our clients needs we can also offer OMG!StephenGately and OMG!RossieOdonnell models to ensure we can provide a friendly comforting presence in every bedroom.

Hi Zimbo/saffer...
Ur sister wont need a sli config, for WoW or CS,
I single mid range GPU with a half decent CPU will do her fine. Does she use it for any Photoshop and hard core movie converting? if not. a good quad will do...
Cheerio

P.s dont hold thumbs for anything coming from ZIm... HAHAAHAH... and saffer land is only a few steps better!

Well, I was looking at the i7 and a 5870 Nvidia card for starters. But I heard that I should get a SLi config at some extra cost. She normally plays WOW and CS Source.
I've got a budget of around $1,214,585.00 ZIM (approx 2000 pounds).
dude srsly!.. WOW AND CSS that can be ran on 7-series or DX9-ATI gfx cards
a athlon II X3, AM2+ mobo (DDR2) and a 260GTX is the best choice.. at the end of the day, it will be out of date in a year or so.. you wont spend alot on a PC and CSS and WOW are 2004/2005 games.. they can be both used with PCs with 3d03s of 10k nps, a 260GTX will give 40+k on a 3d03..
my AMD Sock A 2800+ is still running CSS v.well at 1680x1050

Lets Not turn this into a racial debate about The Aussies... Damned brit prisoners...
It it weren't for you i could get hold of an I7 920 For less than R2500!
^ Dig the Nickname Fokofpoilisekar...
(I wonder if anyone here actually knows what that means)
Maybe BOB and Zuma can get together for a Spoon Session Later...?

My suggestion:
CPU: 80486SX-25 (any of the intel clones will do, unless you're feeling rich)
RAM: 2048K 18ns EDO DRAM
HDD: 4GB IDE
CD-ROM: 4x IDE
VGA: 1024K PCI (S3Virge, ATI 264, similar)
Sound: Gravis Ultrasound, AdLib, Creative SB16, Creative SBPro, similar
OS: MS-DOS 6.22 or DR-DOS 6, plus Windows 3.11 (although this new-fangled Windows 95 seems very nice but REQUIRES CD to install, unless you want to sit there for 16-odd hours swapping stiffies)...
If you want to play the latest games, up the CPU to a DX40 or DX2-50, and up the RAM to about 4096K, but that gets farking expensive farking quickly.
Otherwise, give it another three months so that intel can release this new 80586 'pentium' chip that everyone's raving about.
