Asus Black Perl M/B Memory Problems

I have a Asus (Black Perl Mother Board) and the problem i have is that when i insert any of the following single sdram sticks into the board the board only detects half of what the memory stick is 512 shows 256. 256 shows 128. 128 shows 64. these are all branded names and makes of memory.
Anyone else have this problem ?
