I'm incredibly sorry because i'm quite sure that this has been discussed to a certain degree. But i just wanted a decisive answer. How much of a difference is there when using an Athlon system with 200MHz FSB as compared with 266? (both with DDR SDram). I'm buying a new system (I now have a 200 MHz pentium I) and don't know if I should spend the extra $. While I'm asking, should i spring the extra $145 for the 1.33GHz as opposed to the 1.2GHz pavillion? THANKS A LOT! :)

Go with the 266 FSB. It will be more upgradable in the future as to processor compatability with the AMD socket A's. HP Pavillion's are great I should know I have 3, but they won't outperform a custom build system with the same money put into it. I built a desktop that's faster than any HP for the same money spent. 'sides HP's have a tendancey to use Intel onboard graphics for the P3's. And the Athlon systems they build right now rarely have more than 16MB video. Go with at least 32MB video. You should be able to custom build one at any major retailer.

I agree with erx121. HPs, or any other OEM computer, just dont beat a good 'ol custom built rig. Go spend the extra cash on the 266 fsb.

Amen to that. Go for the 266 FSB. Whatever you do - don't buy a Compaq!!!

Compaq is some garbage. Emachine's are the worst computers you can buy in terms of their parts and service. The tech support doesn't know anything about their motherboards because they just buy them... heheh funny they couldn't answer a ram question. Also, they use soft modems etc etc (classic OEM company).

I'm never buying an OEM computer again; if I were forced to I would get a dell I guess.
