Now we talk Dual-Core. But only Hardware side.
What happen about Operating System ?
They exist just Windows XP and personally I can't say it's a real Operating System.
And when Dual-Core or more will exist I'm sure not able to say to "Unreal Tournament 200X" to use One Cpu with 1 GB RAM if my system is a Dual-Core with 4 GB of RAM.
It's "fun" to talk about Dual-Core or more, but unfortunatly we don't have a real OS for that.
Also I find so ridiculous that Mobo with 2,4,8,16 CPU doesn't exist for normal people. And again that we can't control them. Just Server use them and they don't have many control on them.
Can four (4) AMD Athlon-64 2800+ can beat the Athlon-64 FX-55. Sure they can. And cost less.
But NEVER we will see these system.
Cause Windows XP is just a toy.

Windows XP will support multiple CPUs. Those dualcore chips will probably be 64bit, I'm sure that XP 64bit will support multiple procs too. Dualcore just means 2 cpus on one piece of silicon. Windows doesn't care where the cpus are it will just see 2 procs so it will use 2 procs.
Desktop computers/workstations with more than 2 procs wouldn't be cost effective. We wouldn't utilize that anytime soon. If a user on a workstation needs to do a big processing job they will just send it to a big ol server, that is what it is there for. The market for a workstation with more than 2 procs would be so small it wouldn't be worth it. There arn't many home users that could afford 4+ opteron 850s much less the mobo they would go on (athlon64 chips do not have multithreading support). The operating system would see all the procs fine, the software on the machine just wouldn't know wtf to do with them. Most software (mainly games) incorporate support for multiple cpus but I think that is maily limited to 2 at the moment.
Why would you want more processing power. I know that more power is always a good thing, but nobody needs a 16 CPU computer for home use. Even with the current CPU you rarely need more (exept if you do a lot of video compression or the things in the sort).
In ancient times they had no statistics so they had to fall back on lies
