Does anyone have an A7M mobo and also an IBM 60gxp hd? I have a A7M and was looking into purchasing a 60gxp, but according to the compatability list at IBM.com they're not compatable. Maybe I just read it wrong but they didn't even have the AMD 761 chipset on their list of comptable chipsets. I was just wondering if anyone might know anything about this.

They don't have the AMD 761 on the list, but it looks like the list is pretty old, since they don't even have the KT133A on it either.

I'm not using a 60GXP on an AMD761 board, but I'm sure it will work fine. I've never had any problems with hard drives not being able to work with systems.

Also, you may have read this on IBM's site, but if you are using Windows 98 you might want to download their fix for IBM drives, apparently 98 shuts down before the drive can write all of its info. or something like that, so they built in a time delay in the patch to allow the drive to finish. Otherwise it hurts the drive after a while.

See this link for more info:

I have this drive on my A7M266, 41.2 Gig version, and pretty much all works fine. HD Tach stats make my old IBM drive look like a 1.44 floppy.

But that IBM fix is interesting as I sometimes have problems with my ADSL modem drivers after a restart (once a month in normal operation and once every 2.5 minutes when debugging some new driver :) ) & have to reinstall them so I'll see if that cures it.
