You mean the "Super Bar" on the lower-left (name actually given by Microsoft)? This bar is actually a combination of the old taskbar and quicklaunch bar; it displays pined shortcuts and running programs. If you want to remove a shortcut, simply right-click on it and select "Unpin". Similarly, if you want to add a shortcut, you can just start an application, right-click on it on the bar and select "Pin".
