VIA KT133 chipset question

I just recently bought an MSI K7T Pro 2-A motherboard based on the VIA KT133 chipset, but I've been having problems with it. I am using a TNT2 Ultra video card, but my computer locks up whenever I try to play a game. Is this a problem with my videocard being too old, or is it a problem with the motherboard? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

have you updated the chipset software (VIA 4n1)?, it will pay to do so, also the same should apply to your graphics card and O/S, including directX, people astound me with the lack of thought when it comes to updating hardware, I mean, no one drains the gas & oil from their old car and puts into the new one, do they?.

HEY. i did
when i got my new 1200C i put my old sb live & gigabyte 660 pro in it (tnt pro)

did that to save moolah and cauz th stuff /games i were using were mostly processor dependent.
e.g. baldurs gate 1 & 2, unreal tournament.

I have downloaded all the latest bios/driver updates and installed them all. It only seems to lock up while I play 3D games... so I'm not quite sure what's wrong with it.

Those who think they know much know nothing.

hmms.
a tough call really.
are u absolutely certain it only happens when playing games?
what about movies?

also... have u tried maxxing out your processor usage by using seti@home or something?
try to weed out the chance its your processor locking up under heavy load.

if its not the processor, then its most likely the card.
u could try uninstalling all drivers for it,
and hardware,
remove & reseat the card
then install everything again.
if your still having problems, let me know.
p.s. that card isnt overclocked at all is it?

So sayeth the wise Hamster

Two comments. Basically.

One, with that board, be sure that you have the correct drivers for the video card ... and check the specifications for the PSU. I have a customer with the same board, and I'm always tweaking the system in order for his games to run smoothly. A good 400W LeadMan POWMAX dual-fan PSU, a decent cooling solution w/rolled cables ... and he's just fine. Those MSI KT133 boards seem to run better with fairly heavy-duty PSU's ... more than AMD recommends.

Two ... follow this link, and read. It'll be educational.
