Random lockups, lockups when copying files & installing software. Locks up at shutdown.

Sometimes after rebooting it seems like the drivers for my TNT2 just arent there anymore!

a bad combo of troublemaking components ever but what can I do??

Abit KT7A
T-Bird 850
Generic PC133
SB-Live 5.1
ASUS V3800 TNT2 Ultra

Win98 SE
DirectX 8
4-in-1´s from Abit CD
Original BIOS

Have ordered a Leadtek GeForce2 GTS to avoid Abit mobo-ASUS graphics issue, and quality RAM (Mosel Vitelic).

I´m not overclocking and have good cooling.

I have a 300 W PSU (Chieftech).

Is it the SB-live/686B bug? I never heard of it causing installed drivers to disappear like this...

I don´t like my PC behaving like a timetravelling device.

I have not not tried newer BIOS and 4-in-1 since i don´t have an internet connection and this my friends PC doesn´t have a floppy.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Get newest drivers from the web, reinstall OS (takes much less time than to troubleshoot), do not install DirectX 8, there is nothing that will take advantage of it at this point, so why bother. Yeah, and install system with video card only, then add one by one whatever you have, install, reboot, play with it a little and see what is causing the problem. Other than that, you have perfectly good system.

Post, we'll do the "search"...
