I'm looking at upgrading our verizon phones to newer camera phones. Does
anyone here know which verizon phones allow you to transfer the pictures via
usb cable (or some other cable method), without having to use the verizon
service to send the pics (I assume they charge you)? And do you know if the
upcoming LG vx8000 will allow you use a cable method to transfer the pics?

thanks!

There are programs and data cables out there which will permit you to
transfer pictures out of some (all?) Verizon camera phones. It's not
supported by Verizon, of course, since they want your money. But it is
indeed possible. When I had a VX6000 I used BitPim and a cable from
RadioShack to transfer the pictures off the phone.

Even though I sell VZW (at RS) I've not been lurking in this newsgroup for
quite some time, so I do not know if there are any developments with the
newer phones which would prevent you from being able to get the pictures
off. However, it was in fact possible in the past, and I'm willing to bet
it still is.

Corporate stores should. If you're in an area where there are generally more
cows than people, and your RadioShack sells everything from blueberry pies
to fishing tackle, then no, you probably won't find it. :)

ADDENDUM:

The CABLES will be there. You'll also need the driver for your phone, which
can be obtained legally from the SnapSync software CD-ROM (RS part# 17-780
as I recall). BitPim would be obtained online,
http://bitpim.sourceforge.net/.
