i just built a new system using a a7m266 ,cpu 1.333gig tbird,
256 meg crucial tec pc2100, sparkle 400watt power supply ,
soundblaster live value,win98se. my new moboard will not post using my leadtek gforce 3 or hercules geforce2 ultra . but will post using ati raedon 64mb ddr . this problem is driving me crazy my a7a266 works with gforce 3 .
If anyone can help i would be verry thankful I would like to use or at least try my gforce3 on my a7m HELPPPPPPP!
Are you trying the POST tests with minimum config? i.e. no sound card and any other non-essential add ons? Are you getting any beeps when it doesn't POST?
It's always the one thing you never suspected.
i have tried removing all other componets with no sound card and on board sound disabled . still no post . no beeps either have upgraded bios still same no post . have tried differnt memory . still no post . frustated.
have you tried to lower the AGP setting to 2x and installed the latest drivers for the card and motherboard. It seems strange that it works with a Radeon and not the GeForce.
I thought when boards didn't even beep they were dead.
Normally you get one beep for a good problem free boot, 3 fast beeps for no video card, or bad video card ram, and a long continuous beep for no ram, or no processor. Well something like that.
I was pretty sure that if a mobo didn't beep at all it was a gonner, but if you put the radeon in and it works then I'm wrong.
Try making sure your bios say an AGP video card, and make sure your shadowing is disabled, heck I'll reboot my computer for you and tell you what I have my settings to.
(I have A7M266 and visiontek geforce 3)
:-D
hmm in that case I have a KT7A mobo right now on RMA that won't post at all, I tried my geforce 3, I tried geforce 2 ms, and the thing doesn't beep no matter what. I think it is just DOA though, I reset the bios, and its not the CPU because right now the Tbird 700 is inside of an ECS mobo working just fine.
Oh well I still havn't reboot yet but when I do I'll write down my bios settings.
Try setting the AGP setting to 2X in the BIOS, changing the INIT display to AGP, and lastly, DISABLE AGP Fast Writes. I had to do the last one, and reinstall the VIA 4.32 4-1 drivers to get the system to work with a GeForce 2 GTS.
