a friend of mine was having problems with his laptop. it seems when he was booting up he kept getting a fatal error (using win xp home). he asked for my help so i try to get the win xp disc to use the recovery part of it. he gives me another one of those "for use with a new pc" discs. i put it in and it goes to install the os. later he fools with it and completes the installation and now there is an installation of win xp home on each of his 2 hard drives. my question is how can i get the new installation removed? i feel hesitant to use the same disc, thinking it may only be for installation and not have what i'm looking for.

please excuse my ignorance and tardiness in responding, but i'm not exactly sure how to do this. i'm not able to see where that option is in the control panel.

Right click My Computer, and you should see Manage.

I have XP Pro and am only assuming Home is the same.
Go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Disk Management ... then right click on the partition and select what you want to do.
