hello,

i have a laptop which is made for gaming. it has the Nvidia 580m, HDMI INPUT port, 16GB or RAM, 3D enabled screen at 120hz

and I was wondering if by inserting the HDMI cable from the HDMI OUT port on the PS3 and Inserting it into the HDMI IN port on the laptop, can I play PS3? and then can i also play the ps3 in 3D (for certain games) ?

thank you in advance

if i had to guess it would be a alienware m17x, (i had one), yes you can play your ps3 through the hdmi in, just buy a 1.4 hdmi cable. i used a regular cable and it would lose signal after like 20mins. no it will not play games in 3d because its a 1.3hdmi port.

HDMI 1.3 can still carry a 3d signal over HDMI and work but it has to be HDMI 1.3a, 1.3b, 1.3b1,1.3c according to the chart on this page near the bottom.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI

Viewing 3D content over HDMI 1.3 is possible if the cable can support high bandwidth (the maximum limit of most HDMI 1.3 cables). But it will only produce 1080i images, due to 3D taking two simultaneous pictures instead of one.
