many recent games will not run a 1.8 ghz cpu, what game or game types are you looking to play on?
You might be able to play Source engine type games (Left4Dead2, Counter Strike, Team Fortress 2[free2play now]
You most likely will not be able to play StarCraft 2, Metro2033.

Also, what's your video card?

be careful when you say that it will not play games because of a low clock speed. keep in mind that a 2.5 ghz 2920xm mobile cpu is on par with a 980x in gaming performance. clock speed is not what is important in this case, the problem is the architecture of a core 2 duo is just much to slow clock to clock compared to newer cpus.

as an absolute minimum you want a 2.2ghz intel core2duo or a 2.4 ghz amd dualcore.
minimum recomended gfx is a 9800gt or ati 4850 2 gigs of ddr2 800mhz...
anything less on the cpu and you will run into fps issues with most recent games...as above is pretty much entry level you shouldnt aim any lower for gaming as you will be throwing your money away.

this system will play any current game at reasonable settings with modest rez.
it will easily match and surpass a xbox 360 or ps3 in gfx levels and rez.. currently you could build it for around £350 less if you buy used parts.

minimum recomended quad is a q6600 or phenom x4 945 this will enable you to run up to a gtx 460 or 6770 with 2gig of ddr2 1066 or ddr3 1333 ram... will enable you to play games at 1080p 30fps high settings. this build could be yours for around £450-£500

an £800+ builds will max out just about every game out atm with an i5 2500k gtx570 or 5870 4-8gigs of ddr3 1600 ram
notice i dont recomend an amd cpu, currently they dont have a chip that can compete with an i5 on price or power.
