It's amazing how well it works when compared to similar web services such as mapquest or yahoo maps. Also you can the "Satellite" link to see actual satelitte pictures of your neighborhood. Google always impresses me with it's innovation.

Until their beta service goes 'hot' it's just another attempt to mimic TerraServer. Only difference is Google is using OLD satellite images. It is a neat feature to road map a location then pull the satellite image, but not if the images are years apart. Hopefully this will not be the case when the product is in full production format.

TerraServer has only satellite images. Yes they are more recent, but I don't think that's what Google is going for. I think it is more a substitute for mapquest than for TerraServer. And even then, with more recent pictures google maps is going to easily beat TerraServer with respect to loading time.
