Lets hope the pressure from new ATI series forces them to release dual 460 card (preferably further sli-scallable). Atm its not likely since it would mostly cannibalize their own gtx 470/480 sales, but with ATI forcing GF100 out of the market it might happen.

Because a dual core gts 450 should out preform the Gtx 460. now if it doesn't there really isn't much point.

I guess if they have to release a dual GPU solution, the 450 is their best bet right now. A dual 460 would cannibalize the 480 sales, as Two GT 460s in SLI beat a 480. Anyways, a dual 450 would still land in an already crowded part of the price-performance spectrum, and might help the prices down of other GPUs.

i wouldn't necessarily say they're playing catch up, i own AMD Systems myself and they run very well. not only that, they're better performance per dollar. pairing up AMD and ATI allows for a great system to be built for a great price.

The only thing that comes to mind that is any ware near reasonable is a quad display card and maybe experiment at the same time to see how hot the card will be. Quadro possibility.

This is a good idea to release a budget dual GPU solution but it would be nice to see an enthusiast dual GPU solution as well. The least they can do with AMD releasing the 6000 series soon. I dont think the 480 sales would get hurt if they did this.

Yeah, that was my impression. Even if they do make a card with 2 low power 450's sandwiched together, it likely wont come in time for 6xxx, and it just seems like a desparation move to me.

I think the 75W part is just a laptop GPU. The current power budget for MXM 3 cards is 75W and there has been alot of talk about a GTX 470m coming out sometime soon

Why make a dual gf106 when it would be the same as a full gf104 (not a gtx460)? A full uncut gf104 should preform better then 2xgf106's in sli, and probably use less power.

From our own experience, the Nvidia GeForce GTS 450 (using the GF106 chip) has a great price/performance ratio, and this performance scales superlatively with a second card.

There's speculation Nvidia might release a dual-GF106 video card later this year. KitGutu stated it has data sheets on two GTS 450 cards: one rated at 75W and the second at 150W. Also, Nvidia listed two different GTS 450 cards in its driver.

It's hardly conclusive evidence, but certainly a nice hint there could be a card coming for those who crave as many Nvidia GPUs possible in a system.

A dual GF106 is interesting but seems a bit complicated with regards to performance and pricing. I'm not sure where it is intended to slot in to the Fermi lineup, unless pricing changes are coming on a number of cards.

why would Nvidia bother with that kind of insanity? that's inheritenly stupid unless these are just defective chips that couldn't cut it with a faster memory bus instead of being restricted to 192bit. most of the performance of the 200's and 400's is limited by the very fact the memory bus is restricted below the 260's 448bit and the 460's 256bit.
i'd sooner take a 450gts to a tech school and let some kid attempt to install a faster/wider bus resistor assuming i could get my hands on the right one (256/320/512).

No I think the other GTS 450 part is a possible version with the full 192-bit interface (which the die itself seems capable of) and higher clock speeds. Overclocked GTS 450 parts use significantly more power.
