I was up late last and I had an idea. Is it possible to make a voip server that can dial out using your modem and a phone line to other people. I wanted to set this up to use for my laptop and the wireless network that I have access to at school. I wanted to make local calls from my laptop to my friends using my desktop as the server at my house via the internet. Any suggestions? If this is possible it will make useing the wireless networks more useful being able to make free wireless calls.

Yes, this can be done. Call your friendly neighborhood Lucent / Avaya reseller and ask them about IP Soft Phone.

Works like a champ on my laptop.
