How do i get cod black ops to recognize gamepad

finally got blackops to work but wont recognize my game controller- option for game pad configure is blacked out?

drivers for said gamepad? May have to install them, depends on the gamepad.

I recommend mouse and keyboard though.

It's better to use a keyboard and mouse for FPS games. Or if you're a console gamer playing an FPS game first time on PC, then which gamepad are you using ?

i am using a gigaware generic controller-i ended up ruining the download trying to program and use a 360 control emulator. I should mention this was a torrent file- but worked until i screwed with the emulator- I am having trouble understanding the procedures to follow with game torrents- If torrents bother you, plz dont lecture me-I've been unemployed for 2 yrs, and have 3 girls to look after- cant afford to buy em. thanks for your input- JustJoe
