mother board and RAM question

I'm planning on upgrading my old system (Dual PIII 550) to an Athlon system.
My question is if I purchase a motherboard that only supports SDRAM PC-133 will it support a 1.4ghz processor and will it be able to support any new AMD releases, i.e. will the board have any longevity. Also do any other manufacturers except for ASUS make motherboards that support SDRAM and DDR.
