Howdy all. I'm having a few problems with a friend's computer. When connecting a USB camera to the PC, it recognises the camera alright but says that the camera uses a RAW file system and when trying to access the camera says that it needs to be formatted. When connecting USB flash drives and attempting to access floppy disks, the same thing happens. Could this be a virus or spyware? I've checked the computer for both spyware and viruses using Microsoft AntiSpyware, Spybot and NOD32 but have found nothing that will rectify the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Digital Camera:
It's possible that the Record Mode on your camera has been set to store the files in .raw format. If this is the case, then you can use Adobe Photoshop to view the pictures. You can also use some other .raw file converter that you may find at Download.com or other sites supporting digital cameras and their storage media.
However, this may not be the case since the file system is the actual issue, and not the file format. In this case, I can't offer any explanations. Sorry!
USB Flash Drive(s):
Everytime I'd encountered this problem when attempting to read from a flash drive, I'd go ahead and reformat it. Only problem is that the same problem would occur on every computer it was plugged into. The flash drive was basically dead. However, I do have one of those dead ones still around. I wonder if Photoshop can read anything from it? Hmm...
Floppies:
Could be that you need to update the floppy drivers (controller and drive). Check the computer manufacturer's website for any driver updates.
LAST RESORT option is to reformat and reinstall the OS. This, I'd try to avoid because it probably wouldn't make a difference.

Reintalling the OS was my last option but it appears to be the most sensible one. The camera and USB drives work perfectly on other computers and both do not display a RAW file system when they are plugged in. It can only be a software problem by the looks of it. So if anyone else has had the same problem please let me know ASAP.
Thanks.
It's good that you were able to determine that the hardware works on other machines. This would certainly eliminate the camera, USB flash drives, and floppies as being the source of the problems.
An OS reinstall should make a difference, then. However, consider the following:
Originally, I suspected the problem being with the floppy and USB controllers. You could try reinstalling the chipset drivers first to see if it resolves the issues.
