It looks pretty good and it seems like it can run games like Skyrim and Deus Ex: HR on high settings, feedback?

it will play the games you listed just fine, but titles such as BF3 and Metro , crysis and such, will play most likely with lowered settings; console ports should play well

That laptop isn't good for gaming. Games like Skyrim might play at low settings and at low resolution, whereas Dues Ex, maybe at low to medium and at lowered resolution.
I'd recommend you spend that money on a good desktop.

The nVidia GT 540M is good enough to play games with low settings or a mix of some settings on low and others on medium.

I have a latop with the nVidia GT 550M. It can handle Crysis 1 at medium quality with frames rates generally ranging between 35 and 44 FPS. Frame rates can dip as low as around 29 FPS and peaks as much as 50 FPS while testing it in the 2nd chapter "Relic".

It can play less demanding games with high quality graphics like Fallout 3 though. Skyrim will basically be a console port so unless it is a crappy port of a game (like GTA 4), then the system requirements should be less than Crysis 1. But since Skyrim uses a totally new graphics engine than Fallout 3 you may only be able to set graphics quality to medium in order to get decent performance.
