Hello Tom's Hardware community. I have an Alienware M17x R3 with the following specs:

Core i7 2820QM @ stock 2.3 GHz
16 GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium
ATI Radeon 6970m, driver version 8.851.2.0, downloaded through Dell website
250 GB solid state hard drive

The problem is that I get fps from about 12-35 in COD4 (usually closer to 12), while I get over 30 fps for games like Crysis and Fallout 3 maxed out. The laptop gets similar fps with the alternative power-saving integrated graphics option (switchable graphics).

If someone has seen this kind of problem before and knows possible reasons for it, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Actually, I probably should have marked this question solved a while ago. I fixed it by updating the Alienware specific drivers through Dell's website, making absolutely certain the power options were all set to high performance, disabling user account control, and taking ownership of the executable as administrator. One of those things fixed it, I think. I think I also re-installed it.

But thanks for your advice anyway.
