Hello everyone.. after a 5 day drive from San Diego to Baltimore I hooked my box up to find that the sound would not output to speakers/headphones/etc. even though the mobo still detected it and it seemed to still be present throughout any programs/games I'd run. I hooked a phone jack up to my modem and found that it would not dial even though it would give me no errors upon dialing.. it would not even use the phone line. I am thinking that something may have happened to my PCI bus during the trip since all was well beforehand and the graphics card which is AGP is working just fine. The basic problem is that everything is detected but there is no output from my PCI devices. My config is as follows:
1.4 Ghz P4
256 RDRAM
ABIT TH7-RAID mobo
Aureal Vortex I sound card (tried using a Montego 2 in a diff slot no change)
Radeon VE AGP video card
Creative Labs ModemBlaster PCI
First I would re-install the drivers for your mobo if that dosen't work go into Device manager and re-install the drivers for the cards in question. If you still have no sucess then I would go ahead and take out the cards boot up make sure that windows no longer detects them and then reinstall them.
Good luck
I have tried everything short of reinstalling windows which I don't see could happen.. I find it hard to believe a couple drivers got fried off my hard drive. To recap none of my PCI devices will output at all, the onboard crappy ac'97 sound won't even work. The video works just fine and windows seems to think all my devices are working properly. I haven't tried any USB yet but the keyboard and mouse work fine as well. I am not using my computer now because the modem will not dial just like the sound card won't make sound and the network card won't connect to a network (yes I have tried all this and no I do not get any errors for modem it says nothing will answer but I've picked the phone up while it 'dialed' and it did nothing). I have bought a new sound card and tried it and it did not work either. I figure at this point I'll have to go through the pain in the ass of unmounting my old mobo which I fear is toasted and mounting a new one.. are there any last ditch efforts I can make?
