I've found I don't like a lot of new music. I tend to listen to a lot of older stuff, like Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, older Metallica, etc.

Tool is good though, along with a handful of others.

Good stuff. Alas, I have given up on the mainstream and thrown myself into the abyss of the goth and industrial genres. Currently I'd be found listening to the likes of Ministry, Skinny Puppy, VNV Nation, Fields of the Nephilim, Slick Idiot, Die Krupps, :Wumpscut:, Velvet Acid Christ, plus whatever they happen to play at the clubs (the bennies of working in them). Other than that, I'm racking my brain trying to write my own stuff.

That stuff is just too heavy for my liking. I draw the line at the likes of Coal Chamber.

Nice selection of mp3s...I need to get more Pink Floyd and some other stuff. I've been meaning to for a while.

May I recommend "Voodoo Child" by Hendrix, "Panama" by Van Halen, "Eleanor Rigby" by the Beatles, and "Your Time Is Gonna Come" by Led Zeppelin? Just some off the top of my head by those bands you have.

Mmm, well, i've had a wide share of music, mostly Rock 'n roll and alternative

Rhapsody
Rammstein
Ozzy Osbourne
Metallica
Blink 182
Hoobastank
Fastball
Nightwish
Guns and Roses
Jethro Tull
The Cure
Scooter

We did have many topics but most of them ended in a dislike to how modern music has become. That's not to say we should completly forget about it.
I for one tune in on the Much Music channel (like MTV but Canadian)and see what's good.
I mostly find original songs and those with expression, not just Love Love Love and Love.
I've become an Eminem fan ever since Without Me, since his songs are more about expression than just insults, and his Lose Yourself song is just too damn good and for once he encourages people to live their dreams they believe in.
I dare say Avril Lavigne is my favorite singer, as I relate a lot to her words, and it isn't "I love you" stuff.
Other than that I just get what I feel has some music behind it, as I get tired of the rest of songs with no taste.

Bands that I hate :

Blink 182

I cannot stand punk rock with the same stuff against government because they only complain with no reaction or progress!
And worse are those punk rock bands who have monotonous singing voices, AUUGHH...

Sum 41 does it right though, when they play punk...

If I am not mistaken those are one of the monotonous voiced ones. Not sure though.

Another thing is that most of these "anti-government" activists that complain about things in life, are only hypocrites. No really, they complain about the bad things in life and the corruption, THEN they go do riots and cause trouble!
Seriously am I the only one who sees hypocrisy in most punk rock bands?
Of course there are plenty who aren't, and sing with a point in their songs, and try to do something PACIFICALLY.

Nothing wrong with internet radio. It's not better than mp3, but it's easier than burning the stuff to bring to work. It also reminds you of what your missing (listening to Soft Cell - Tainted Love using Netscape/Spinner as I write this).

I know what you mean about modern punk. some times i just want to throttle them for being so bad.
i forgot to mention underclianable ambuscade. one for the money is a very cool cd.
pink folyd is very popular here but they have some real cool stuff like the dark side of the moon. velvet underground have some good traks too.
i can understand why all music discussions degenerate into people saying how bad current music is since its generic manufactured sh!t. for example in the uk at the momnet everyone seems to like will young. for god's sake the guy is an arse. why do people pay money to wankers like him?

Now thats what I want to know!

Reply to Secretninja

That will always be one of life's great mysteries. Will Young obviously has some talent and to be fair has adapted well to sudden fame and the demands of performing, but beyond that he's spectacularly average and his music is indistinguishable from the general background of crap and banality. Maybe it's his slight 'underdog' status (like Gareth Gates) that keeps him up there. Or maybe he's just cashing in on the 'pink pound'

 Wingding - sugar and spice and all things vice

Modern punk?
Give artists like Adult and Mt Sims a shot, it´s a mix of electro and punk...very...ehrm...different stuff.

I kind of like it, especially the song 'Disspasionate furniture' with Adult.

will have a look for them.

the only real problems with the music industry are the large record labels and the RIAA. the care about money and what is cheep to produce. smaller labels are good and i feel more should be done to encurage them since they are the people who are still finding artists and not the ones who are making them.

Now thats what I want to know!

To me it's a lot like the movie biz. They have no guts when it comes to signing bands. The target demographic for both movies and music is just too young and dumbed-down. :frown:

Hollywood is worse though, IMO. A really incestuous business for the most part.

What makes me mad about modern music is the uncreative names. How many bands are there whose name is some word then number combination? Sum 41, Appollo 440, Blink 182, and hundreds of other lame uncreative names. So gay. Hey guys, lets follow that naming scheme and make our own THGC band named "Socket 370"! What do you say?

Well I only have seen Missy Eliott's new clip, Work it.
Man I agree, it's just so "weird" how she does that video. But I somehow like it, as odd as it is. Especially funny is the beginning with the guy answering the phone, it has no sense or place in the video yet it fits! And then we see her as a DJ with bees on her... what masterpiece is this!

I somewhat have a certain liking to Sum 41, though I am no huge fan.
I dunno if it's bias about their Canadian background, or just the music itself that has some parts that are nice.
But I agree, mostly bands are uncreative. It's even more annoying how one singer that is so "cute and sexy" will drag the countdown boards so easily, while his song isn't all that.

I must say though, that new Avril video "I'm with you", has revitalized my love for her. That is just one beautiful goddess.

Eh, the talking heads are a bit too "abstract" for me I guess.

The most popular SRV song is called "Pride and Joy" awesome.
His version of Little Wing is amazing guitar. Then there's:

The Sky is Crying
Crossfire
Cold Shot
Look at Little Sister

Those are a few of the main ones.
