I'm close to assembling my first system and I'd like a recommendation.
My overall objective is getting a good, solid performing, reliable machine. I don't have high demands. I'm typing this on a 5-year old P133 with a 200MHz overdrive in it. I'd like to have something that give me room to grow.
I'm leaning toward a 900MHz Athlon-based system. I've heard great things about Asus. So the ones up for consideration are:
I have the Ali based A7A266, and while it may not be the overall fastest board (i have to complaints) it is stable. I have always heard Via was crap. Also, why a 900mhz system? why not jsut go ahead and get a 1.2 or higher? I'd at least get the 1.13 w/ the 266mhz fsb(only $83 at pricewatch). AND make sure you get DDR mem too... its only 17 dollors at googlegear.com, i just bought another 128mb for only 27.35 with shipping to Georgia. I think thats pretty good. If I was going to choose from those three, id either get the A7M or A7A, but these are all just opinions, so make whatever choice you want. I doubt the A7V is a bad board.
