Want to image a partition for restore purposes - which sof..

I now have Windows XP SP2 in a pretty-much perfect configuration, and
I *was* going to use Norton Ghost 2003 to image it for when I want to
reinstall, but I found the program absolutely baffling and the web
tutorials little better.

Using Nero's hard-disk image facility, the prefacing warnings are so
discouraging that I didn't bother.

Can anyone advise what software would be best for an intermediate user
to yuse in order to backup a restorable version of my current system?
