Hi folks,

The time has come to upgrade my ageing PC. I'm going for an all-out upgrade and want to get a brand new base unit. My budget is £1,500.

My current PC was top of the range 4 years ago and came with an Asus VW193 LCD monitor. I haven't been paying any attention to hardware whatsoever for the last 4 years. The question is: have monitors improved vastly during this period, and do I need a new one? The last thing I want is to get a swanky new PC with the latest graphics card only to have it bottlenecked by my old monitor!

Thanks in advance,

Sam

Monitors have gotten very cheap and quality in performance and resolution have gone way up. Upgrading to a 1080p or higher resolution monitor will make a striking visual difference compared to your current monitor. The visual difference between 480p to 720p and 1080p will be very noticeable. You can upgrade to a good 22" - 24" 1080p monitor for less than $200.

I would recommend, from personal experience:

Grabbed one on sale for 159$, 2ms response time, 1080p full HD, ASUS quality.

Monitor makes a huge difference.

I have one just like that and I subscribe to Maksym's opinion, great visuals, recommended.
