Help me remember this ps1 game

All i remember was that you were in a space fighter. And you attacked aliens lol and there was this giant ship that was on your team that was just a weapon that fired a beam that was its sole purpose. Portals opened up and enemies came through. I also remember having to do a puzzle-like thing where you shot specifically wierd shaped things that was supposed to be an alien relic or something.

when you say space fighter i assume you mean space simulator I haven't played the game but i found a list that might fit the description.

Colony Wars

and when you said shooting weird shaped objects first thing that came to mind was Starfox
