Just built a new pc, and installed win 7 x64.

I can't get battlefield 2 to run!

I installed the game, patched to 1.41, then patched to 1.5.

Game opens fine, but when I connect to a server @ about 50% load the game just crashes to desktop...

Got the latest Catalyst drivers installed? Do they fully support the 58xx series cards yet?

Yes, I have the newest drivers installed. And yes they support the 5870 card.

I can run counter strike source fine. Maxed out runs perfect.

So not sure why battlefield 2 is having issues

I did come across a problem one time with a program called Tunebite. It's a recording program that records the sound output from a DRM'ed track and re-saves the output as an unprotected file. My situation involved Battlefield 2142, but maybe you're having a similar problem? I had to disable the Tunebite capture driver in order to get BF 2142 to work. With the driver enabled, BF 2142 would crash when I tried to load up a map and start playing, or when trying to modify the sound options.

How do I check if I have this application?

Programs and Features? Could also check the device manager's Sound, Video and Game Controllers section for the Tunebite driver (or any other potentially conflicting drivers as well).
