i posted this one a few days ago- I have two operating
system's on my computer [both windows XP professional],
and the first one, which i have all of my files on,
starts with the loading sign, but when it comes to where
the "welcome" screen should appear, the computer monitor
goes all blank black. i can still hear the welcome music,
and i can play music that i have on that system from
the "media" key on my keyboard. I know the problem isn't
in my monitor as my other operating system works. The
reply I got on my first post said to choose the option
of "last known good configuration" at boot up. that
didn't work. I then started in Safe mode, and ran "error
checking", whilst running spybot and norton virus scan.
That didn't work. The other suggestion was to go to
http://www.net-integration.net/index.php? to download
Hijackthis to remove startup registry items, however i
cannot connect to the internet in safe mode?

Also, i have tried starting from a system restore point,
and that didn't seem to work, have also tried to restore
from earlier dates.. but hasn't worked.

ANY HELP is appreciated!!

thanks.

Well, atleast you can get into safe mode. What the error
checking say. I know if you miss it at boot up its gone.
You can view by opening event viewer Need help? Open up
help and support and search for "event viewer" Select
application events . Under the heading source, look for
winlogon. One of your winlogons will have the results of
chkdsk

If that's ok. (no bad blocks) I'm guessing that some
application that is loading up is creating errors for
you. You need to eliminate any unnecesary files.

In safe mode, at start bar / run msconfig.exe , select
diagnostic startup, then reboot. Hopefully you reboot
there without errors. Then run your virus and maleware
scans and downloads.

you can try to repair your OS with your XP cd.

Best bet is the one above or you can go into recovery console and try a fixboot in the cmd. Command line when in recovery mode chkdsk /p when done fixboot replace existing exit. Hopefully it will boot from there. If not repair windows installation as stated above.
