Do a search on the Net for "motherboard install". You'll find plenty of introductory articles. I'd advise getting assistance from someone who's done this before. I cut my teeth on old stuff (386s and such) before I messed around with the new stuff. Swapping parts in these old boxes gave me the experience and confidence I needed.
I built the system in the first place so I know how to install a board but that was with a fresh system. I don't think that I can just plug the thing in, install the drivers and go. I am wondering what special steps must be taken to replace a board on an existing system.
Modern art, is it art? Nope, I realized, some things are just stupid.
Also, I cannot operate my system right now because the chip and the board are fried (in case that complicates the process of installing a new board I thought I'd mention it)

It is best to do a fresh install of windows.
but if you dont have the time or whatever.Start in safe mode. You can open device managerand delete all system devices. When it asks you to reboot tell it no.Delete all devices.Delete video card, sound card, hard disk controllers etc... everything.
Now turn the computer off.DO NOT RESTART.
Change out the motherboard and processor.
Start up with minimal components.
Set bios.
You know the rest.
If you got something vital you want to save on your harddisk I would recommend pulling out the harddrive and copying the things you want to save on your c: drive to another harddisk or partion with the help from another computer. Then I would format your harddiscs c: drive, install the new mobo, cpu, cooler and so on and do a fresh install of your OS. That would definetly work without any problems and your are sure to get your system up and running the first time.
