I've been messing around with my comp re-installing everything and a strange thing happened after I re-installed my mobo drivers for the fourth time.. it had 'Device #2' whenever I had a drop down to select the device and this would work perfectly. It did this for my modem and my network card. Alas I have no sound still.. I've tried the AC'97 on-board and two different sound cards (SQ1500 and SQ2500) repeatedly. The speakers are Boston Digital BA735 that came with my friend's Gateway and I see no reason they wouldn't work on mine although I can't test any other speakers/headphones on it. Whenever I have ever installed the sound card it said on bootup it isn't in the primary PCI slot whatever that means.. I have tried the damn card in every PCI slot in my mobo and it has said this. According to Windows ME everything works just fine, but in a stroke of stupidity I removed the '#1' devices figuring the #2 would stay and work but once I removed the '#1' that did nothing so far as I know they did not work anymore so I'm back to where nothing works except the video card. Please help me this makes no sense and I am confused as hell...
config:
P4 1.4ghz
Abit TH7-RAID mobo
AGP ATI Radeon VE video card
Aureal SQ2500 sound card
Boston Acoustics Digital BA735 speaker system
Creative Modemblaster PCI modem
Realtek PCI network card
I'm starting to believe you.. I've got everything except sound output working now. I think it might be the speakers because microphone seems to work with it. I keep getting this stupid error about my sound card not being in the primary PCI bus tho.. I don't even know if my mobo has a primary PCI bus!
I don't think the Aureal 98SE drivers work properly with ME. In fact, with so many drawbacks to ME, I suggest using 98SE. Also, their are no "final" drivers for the Vortex2 and Win2k, BUT XP has good drivers built in. So that leaves you too good choices, 98SE or XP.
