monitor shuting down

Have problem with monitor shutting down while xp is
booting on laptop. Laptop is hooked into regular monitor
since laptop screen is broke.

program is booting up, but once the XP Home Edition comes
up the monitor goes from fully on to shutting off with
yellow flashing on monitor as if it were on stand by.

worked fine for a couple of weeks and then problem
occurred.
