Hello:
I've got a friend who burned out his bios chip when he tried to flash it. Can he just buy a new chip (ATMEL AT29C020) put it in his MOBO and then flash it? Will the computer even boot with a new bios chip in it? Do I need to order it with it flashed already? Thanks!

you may want to contact your mobo tech support and you may need to fill out an RMA to get the BIOS replaced.

If you order a new bios chip from your mobo maker, they will send you the latest version for your mobo, and you don't have to flash it. Be sure to plug it in the right direction; if you plug it in backwards, you will fry it. Some newer bios chips may require a special tool to remove them. They are square shaped, instead of rectangular.
