Im looking to buy a mobo, HD, 3D card, CPU....and I have 1K to spend...Can anyone suggest some hardware?

cpu : Athlon 1.4GHz (266fsb)
ram : 256MB Crucial PC2100
video: GeForce3 (Asus V8200, Hercules Prophet III,etc.)
HD : IBM 60GXP 40GB

that should well be under 1K... probably around 6-700$

make sure you get a case that has a good 300W+ powersupply.

I would also suggest a lite-on cd-burner (about 12x10x32) with burn proof technology for about $75. And a 21 inch monitor, which starts at about $350 plus shipping.

I'd get the barracuda IV but the 60gxp is ... it really doesn't matter. the barracuda iv is quiet. you might want to buy a cheaper 3d card or wait. a geforce 3 is a little overkill I think now. use this link to buy crucial ram:
