Hi all

I am interested in getting a headset for gaming and listening to music. I doubt i'll be doing much yelling around, so i won't need a mike. I was wondering what would be the best headset for me to use? Was sorely tempted by the asus vulcan anc headphones, but i was wondering about the need for mics. How bout a high quality anc headphone? My price range is about 100 or so bucks. Thanks a lot

I use the Steel Series 4H headset, which have a retractable mic for when you're not using it. Its an older model but I didn't want to spend much so I hunted round and was still able to get one 6 months ago.

Sound quality is fairly good although you wouldn't say amazing, probably considered better for gaming than music. They are probably a little below your budget though as I just found them for sale on amazon for $39.20 (normally $70)

For music I use Shure SE215 earphones which blow my mind every time I use them!!

If it doesn't need a microphone, go for something a bit classy ;)

Grado PS1000 are very expensive, but worth every penny if you have that to spend.
AKJ Q701
Sennheiser HD598
Beats Solo by Dre if you're into hippoty hop and drugstep. Not very classy though :p

Good luck :)

I like mid to high end Sennheisers (I own the HD 380s - http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-380-Pro-Collapsible-Professional/dp/B001UE6I0G/ref=sr_1_48?ie=UTF8&qid=1324754947&sr=8-48) for music, either with my PC or iPhone. For gaming I've finally settled on the astro a40 + mix amp (http://www.astrogaming.com/a40-audio-system-astro-edition). So far, this (the astro) is the best gaming headset I've used, both in terms of mic and audio quality (I've also tried the steel series one, the razor megalodon (i think that was what it was called), and a couple of unremarkable logitech types)... My only quibble is with the price: $250 is a hell of a lot of money for headphones and a mic. But if you spend several hours a day playing computer games, it might be worth it.
