No your not a dork unless you wear camouflage..please see here. I wish I was going tonight but I have to work tomorrow and I don't want to be up till 3am. So I'm going tomorrow night at 10:45pm and I'm drooling to go. I wish I got throught the book in time but I only got to the part where Gandalf and everyone is confronting Saruman at Isengard. I saw the first film 3 times the first 2 days it was out and I've watched it about 6 more times since then. I just love the Balrog scene. I heard that The Two Towers opens with Gandalf falling and explaining what happened to him. Scammy I also have the regular DVD and the extended...I just can't get enough of all things Lord of the Rings!!! Bless J.R.R.T for writing it!!!

Well I'm going to try and read some more tomorrow at work. Hopefully we won't be busy. Even if I don't finish I'm still going to read it after I see the movie and I will definitely finish The Return of the King before next year.

No I don't wear camo. Actually, the only time in my life (besides maybe when I was 6 wearing GI Joe clothers) I actually wore camoflauge was when I went paintballing. Friend did military surplus auctions so there was plenty to go around. Swiss camo is kinda cool though... Anyways...
Ya the trailers been getting my knickers in a bunch too bad to have to wait. Really, the reason I'm seeing it at midnight is because I want to see it with friends, but tomorrow none can do it and won't be able to until like Friday, and that's just way too late to see it.
About the trailer... Does anyone get reminded of Warcraft III from some of the stuff it shows? Huntresses, treants, doom guards? Maybe that's what makes me the uber-dork... HAHA

Well, I was going to go and get drunk with a buddy and watch it tonight, but I found out my car died on my (just after I came out of my 7 pm exam), and I had to get the heap towed. So no movie for me... Oh well.

I would, but looming exams and horrifying crowds at the cinema tend to put me off going. Besides, I read the books years ago so I can't exactly find out any spoilers by waiting to go see it. Good luck to you, though.

Ok that movie is fricking amazing. It's sick amazing actually. The effects are too good, completely seamless and practically real looking. The first one did seem to flow a little bit better, but this one was much more enjoyable. I was shaking my head in awe most of the movie because the visuals are that awesome. See it!

Well I do envy you for having seen it already. I think we have to wait for one month before it comes to theatres here. Maybe I'll get it dvd ripped before, but still I'm going to the movies.

IMHO, on the contrary, the bridge of Khazad-dum and the secret council at rivendell really looked crappy and They should have invested more in perfecting them like other parts of the movie.
btw, can anyone explain to me why dwarves hate elves? "Gimli: I will be dead before I see the ring in the hands of an elf".
By flow better I mean how the sequence of events come about. I think that in the second one there was so much they absolutely HAD to put in that they stuggled making it only 3 hours, and had a hard time doing it. It was still an awesome movie. Gollum is just amazing. You can't tell he's CG.
-------------------------------------------
"Trying is the first step towards failure."
On dwarves and elves, I'm not a big Tokein historian but I know both of 'em have hated eachother for looong time, the dwarves are greedy live underground, the elves are the opposite. Also, I think the dwarves brought down alot of elven kingdoms b/c they wanted wealth.
Reading all three of those books took like a year for me. And sometimes it seems like this: "Lord Kallorhan of Bloderon lead the Riders of Dragangaon to the Kingdom of Kurk'hai in the Valley of Tellederon with his Blade of Xalegon." If i hadn't read the books I'd be so confused I'd start crying.
So far critics say it's great, better than first, and Gollum is very well rendered, and there are some differences from the book. I'm seeing it Fri. Too many hardcore Tolkein nerds are probably crowding the theatures today.
Most people live at the speed of life, I drink Mountain Dew!
I was surprised at the demographic at the midnight showing. There was only 1 guy dressed in a cape. Quite surprising. Seemed to be just as many trendy-type people as the type you'd expect to see.

this is a great film saw it lastnight, will see it again on the ultrascreen (we have a screen in milwaukee area aprox 1 1/2 times the size of normal screen, imaxish almost). these movies make me want to read the book but i am not sure if i would be able to get into them. never could as a kid.
Turn around and smell what you don't see... here's a mirror, behind there is a screen
Well...I guess I'm in the minority.
I was very disappointed. But I'm a huge fan of the books, and have read all three twice in the last year.
There are some MAJOR departures from the book that just puzzled me. It was hard for me to appreciate all the good stuff in the movie though (and there WAS plenty of great action, and Gollum was really good), because I was so perplexed as to why they would change the story the way they did.
Just my opinion...maybe after more of you have seen it we can start a new thread about it...

Hmm IGN did state it might feel distant to some.
Mixed bag I guess, but it does seem overall very positive in reviews.
I respect however your opinion because you took the time to explain, elaborate.

was anyone else pissed that they put that god damned elve chick in there? she wasn't even mentioned in the second book and she was only in one paragraph of the first book, in the movie she takes over the part of another elve and what pissed me off the most about the first movie was there was no tombombadil... just being a dedicated fan I suppose
smurf A- I saw you leave with smurfette
smurf B- oh man as soon as we got out of the bar she started smurfing me

Hmmm...well, as far as Tom Bombadil is concerned...it made sense to me that if you had to cut something, that might be the most reasonable thing to cut. I mean...I LOVE that part too...but I can see why they cut it.
In Two Towers, I too thought they brought Arwen in a bit too much, (trying to keep romantic interest up I suppose). But, that was by far the LEAST of my problems w/this movie.
However, I don't want to say anything more until more people have seen it.

Yes...that surprised me. On the way home from the theatre, my husband and I were wondering how long it would take for the outcry of the diehard community to hit the fan. But, when I got home and checked the internet, it was mostly either good reviews or non-committal statements about the departure from the book.
I was disappointed in a way, didn't get any validation!
We'll still buy it when it comes out of course, but it sure makes me wonder how they're going to fit certain things into the 3rd movie...and wonder how they're going to end it.

Well I only read the first book yet (will read the second after the movie) but if I'm right the dwarves caused all the bad things around Moria that caused major problems for the elves too.

Damn This movie sounds like fun.
It was a great movie but to me the biggest disappointment was that they tarnished Faramir's character. He is supposed to be someone from the race of men that doesn't fall for the desire for the ring. I was also disappointed they didn't put Shebol's lair in the movie, I was really looking forward to that, oh well, another year and I'll see what they did with it.
Just because I like AMD or Intel more at a time because of one product compared to another, does not make me a fan boy, it makes me a person who is able to make a descision for myself.
It's amazing that within a one year lapse, the second installment comes with so much brilliance and mastery of art, and acting and sound. It counters the usual fact that movies that have sequels in less than a year are ending up bad.
I will watch it tommorow.
